UNDER cONSTRUcTION
I have been feeling terrible guilt over this blog- that I haven't written anything in such a long time (I was fearing months) but according to this it has only been since September. Not too shabby. I wonder if I have been blogging in my sleep which would be the only spare time I have had recently... It will take a while to catch up on all the news but it will still have to wait as my computer is breaking down- I have to cut and paste various letters that no longer work and it turns out that I am lacking punctuation as well. I was okay with the letters because I found clever ways to snatch them from website addresses but the punctuation- that gets me down. So I am going to have to cut this short and leave it as a temporary construction sign until I manage to get a new computer or an external keyboard. How sad. And I had so much to say...

Brand New Bag
And so, the overnight holiday was a success! My husband and I just walked around a small town for, oh, the whole day, accomplishing nothing really except that I got a fantastic haircut. I usually cut my hair myself but about once a year I concede to having a professional do it. This time I chose t haircut that Mia Wasikowska has in the new movie Restless:
I don't look like her or anything, I just dig the haircut and I always keep my hair short so you have to find ways to change it up. The woman who cut my hair was super awesome and we had a great time chatting about short hair and its limitations vs long hair, living in a small town, moving back to your hometown after years away and if that means you somehow didn't "make it"... fantastic! And the cut cost only $24! What the??
Anyway, we stayed in a bed and breakfast but have no photos as we both forgot the camera (again, this is par for the course). It was super comfortable, not too old lady-ish and the breakfast was over the top. We wandered around a bit more and then came home again, jiggety jig. Voila, end of vacation. And just in time I guess because I am no longer unemployed! That's right, I was offered a four month contract, which will bring me to less than two months before my due date, so pretty perfect. It should be an awesome job too so I am really looking forward to it, even though it is at a new institution with new people and I am a little nervous. The only real problem is, with three days left of (f)unemployment, I seem to be at a loss for how to amuse myself. I feel adrift and a little cut off and I'm not sure why.So I thought I would make a list to remind myself what's going on:
1. Make another pair of pregnancy pants for work.
2. Make cards for birthdays and holidays (side project to make some cash).
3. Make onesie for friend's baby.
4. Exercise: I'm supposed to e swimming and stuff but I can't seem to make myself go. I also haven't been doing any stomach muscle exercises or the Kegels to make birthing easier. Eep, must.get.going!)
5. Write in journal.
6. Read The Difference Engine: I bought this with some birthday money and am super happy. I can't believe that I haven't read it before now as it is THE (steampunk) classic but there you have it. It's easily available now because of a 20th anniversary reissue so it kind of just fell into my hands. And it's not that I love steampunk, cos I have no care for it- it's that I love SF and William Gibson and know that Bruce Sterling has his place even though I have only read one of his books. (Again, eep!)
Alright. I'm feeling a little more focused now. I guess I spent too much time ogling fashion blogs and got confused. Kept thinking that admiring things is the same as making things, doing things. Hmph. Wish me luck on my new found motivation (here's hoping it lasts longer than the twenty minutes it will take me to get showered and dressed)!

Last Ditch
I keep trying to avoid posting about being pregnant, unless if it's for fascinating Did You Know? type of stuff, but frankly, it's on my brain so screw it! I don't care if there a million and one baby blogs out there, or pregnancy blogs, or mommy blogs or daddy blogs. I want to be able to blog about stuff that's on my mind and the baby is on my mind. Or, rather, on my waist band.
My husband and I are heading out of town this afternoon (after baby doctor appointment #2) for a mini holiday. We started doing this a couple of years ago, just running away for one overnight, when we changed some things in our lives and became rather short on funds. And now, with baby on the way, well, we'll probably do this less frequently. So I twisted his rubber arm and called it a birthday treat and soon we're off! I was packing up until a minute ago when I had to stop because it seems I am bringing ALL the clothes that I still fit. The pregnancy thing is starting to get me down, clothes wise. I can't just run out and buy a load of new clothes, especially since I'll only be wearing them for a few months, but I'm in a jam! See the pics of the wicked awesome pregnancy pants I made (which are a godsend), but I am screwed on the shirt front! It just isn't always appropriate to wear skin tight t-shirts but my only other option are super baggy ones- I don't want to look or feel like a slob. And I am down to my last two button-up shirts.
And my real emergency is the hoodie problem. I have only one hoodie that fits but it will only fit for so long. And I will be ever bigger in the colder months- I can't live without a hoodie! I tried looking for a DIY solution online but have found nowt so far...bummer.
This is the awkward stage of pregnancy I guess. Too big for my usual clothes, too small yet to feel comfortable waltzing around with my pseudo belly out. Too early and too broke to buy a ton of new clothes. As if awkward-stage hair wasn't bad enough.
Well, here's to a super fun mini-vacation!

DO OVER! Or, Who Knew #1
Okay. So after much ado about everything I have established a new blog. This doesn't come easy for me, fooling with computers, and I considered giving it up in favour of establishing a zine (kickin' it old school) but I kept hammering away at it (I love how you can open a million tabs with Mozilla, or is that a Windows 7 or XP thing? You see what I mean about me and computers?) because I just couldn't give up the idea of a blog. I never posted on my previous one much but that's because I could never figure out what kind of slant or purpose I wanted to have. It's hard for me to decide on just one thing, ever. But, the reason I wanted to get serious about the posting is because my life is kind of in an uproar.
The major thing is I'm pregnant. It was planned but, well, I didn't expect it to happen so fast once we decided to go ahead. I always kind of figured I was infertile. But there you have it. And I'll get into other details of how my life in in an uproar at a later date. For now I want to to say that yes, I guess this will be yet ANOTHER blog about being pregnant and having a baby. The difference will be that I hope to blow open all those secrets that parents have that they don't share with parents-to-be unless you figure out exactly what questions to ask. I'm only 3 months along and I am already pretty ticked off at all the pregnant people I have known who keep these tidbits secret when I could really use a frickin' hand here! With no further ado, here's a who knew #1:
Ultrasound pictures cost money. Yup. Heck, maybe you knew this. I sure as heck didn't and was pretty much stunned when I found out. I had gone in for my first ultrasound, looking forward to seeing proof of the wee thing and bringing home a pic but the thing costs $6! It's not exhorbitant but for reasons I'm sure will come out later I can't afford $6 for a vague pie slice picture of a humanoid blob (if I'm lucky). I didn't believe the wee thing would actually look like a person so I skipped it out of sticker shock. Now I'm mad, cos I could have had a picture, if I wasn't broke. Oh well, here's value for your money: who knew #2:
You can drink too much water before an ultrasound. Yeah found that out after the technician gave me absolute s*** and made me cry. And not enjoy the first viewing of the wee thing in mah belly, even though it looked like a real person! I don't know what to tell you about what the right amount to drink is, but I think if you keep yourself well hydrated during the day (as I do normally) then one extra glass should do. Ballparky. I drank their two pints an hour ahead and ended up wit a bladder trying to take over the whole US screen. It really sucked and was incredibly disappointing. So, please, pass this on and let someone be better prepared from my advice!
