And so, the overnight holiday was a success! My husband and I just walked around a small town for, oh, the whole day, accomplishing nothing really except that I got a fantastic haircut. I usually cut my hair myself but about once a year I concede to having a professional do it. This time I chose t haircut that Mia Wasikowska has in the new movie Restless:
I don't look like her or anything, I just dig the haircut and I always keep my hair short so you have to find ways to change it up. The woman who cut my hair was super awesome and we had a great time chatting about short hair and its limitations vs long hair, living in a small town, moving back to your hometown after years away and if that means you somehow didn't "make it"... fantastic! And the cut cost only $24! What the??
Anyway, we stayed in a bed and breakfast but have no photos as we both forgot the camera (again, this is par for the course). It was super comfortable, not too old lady-ish and the breakfast was over the top. We wandered around a bit more and then came home again, jiggety jig. Voila, end of vacation. And just in time I guess because I am no longer unemployed! That's right, I was offered a four month contract, which will bring me to less than two months before my due date, so pretty perfect. It should be an awesome job too so I am really looking forward to it, even though it is at a new institution with new people and I am a little nervous. The only real problem is, with three days left of (f)unemployment, I seem to be at a loss for how to amuse myself. I feel adrift and a little cut off and I'm not sure why.So I thought I would make a list to remind myself what's going on:
1. Make another pair of pregnancy pants for work.
2. Make cards for birthdays and holidays (side project to make some cash).
3. Make onesie for friend's baby.
4. Exercise: I'm supposed to e swimming and stuff but I can't seem to make myself go. I also haven't been doing any stomach muscle exercises or the Kegels to make birthing easier. Eep, must.get.going!)
5. Write in journal.
6. Read The Difference Engine: I bought this with some birthday money and am super happy. I can't believe that I haven't read it before now as it is THE (steampunk) classic but there you have it. It's easily available now because of a 20th anniversary reissue so it kind of just fell into my hands. And it's not that I love steampunk, cos I have no care for it- it's that I love SF and William Gibson and know that Bruce Sterling has his place even though I have only read one of his books. (Again, eep!)
Alright. I'm feeling a little more focused now. I guess I spent too much time ogling fashion blogs and got confused. Kept thinking that admiring things is the same as making things, doing things. Hmph. Wish me luck on my new found motivation (here's hoping it lasts longer than the twenty minutes it will take me to get showered and dressed)!
